Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. They are third-party figures, sources can disagree, and none of them is our offer.
Panrang Luhu Beach is a shore of about 1.5 km on the east side of the Bira cape, with a pinisi yard at its north end and Bira port at its south end. The tourism ministry's village platform calls it more natural than Bira and Bara, and suited to camping and sunrise.
What is Panrang Luhu Beach?
It is the long shore on the eastern side of the Bira cape, also spelled Panrangluhu. The tourism ministry's village platform, Jadesta, says it runs about 1.5 km from north to south, facing east, with a pinisi yard at the north end and Bira port at the south end. Those two bookends tell you what kind of place this is: a working coast with a beach along it.
The platform calls the beach more natural than Bira and Bara, with many coconut palms, and describes it as suited to camping and to watching the sunrise. That is promotional wording from a government platform and not a survey. The regency's tourism head also named Panrang Luhu among seven leading Bulukumba destinations, according to an Antara report.
How does it differ from Bira and Bara?
Mostly in orientation and in who is writing about it. The Seascapes guide gives the sunrise to the eastern coast, and Panrang Luhu sits on it; how the cape fits together covers both coasts.
| Beach | How it is described | Whose words |
|---|---|---|
| Panrang Luhu | East-facing, about 1.5 km, palms, more natural, sunrise and camping | Jadesta, tourism ministry platform |
| Bira Beach | Very fine white sand and relatively calm waves | National tourism site |
| Bara Beach | West-north-west-facing cove, sheltered from the prevailing south-easterly wind | Seascapes, a resort based on that beach |
Take "more natural" with one caveat from the same platform: it also says hotels and guesthouses along Panrang Luhu are growing in number.
Can you see boats being built there?
Possibly, though nobody can promise a hull on any given day. Jadesta places a pinisi yard at the north end, and IDN Times wrote in September 2022 that the beach is known as a workshop for pinisi boats. Whether visitors are welcome inside the yard, and at what hours it works, is something to ask on the spot.
So treat it as an open-air look from the sand. Walk to the north end, watch from a respectful distance, and ask before stepping into a work area or photographing people at work. Boatyards are workplaces, with timber, tools and machinery in use. Our guide to the Tana Beru boatyards goes further into visiting the yards.
Can you camp or stay there?
The ministry platform calls the beach very suited to camping, but it gives no rules, no permit process and no list of facilities. Our advice is simple: ask a local resident or the nearest guesthouse where camping is acceptable before you pitch anything, and carry your own water and light.
Before you settle in for the night, look at the sea forecast. In August 2026 Detik reported on-off ferry sailings at Bira because of east wind and waves. That is a report about the crossing and not about the beach, but it shows the wind can matter outside the wet months. BMKG publishes a marine forecast for Bulukumba waters, and it is worth a look on the day.
For a roof over your head, the same platform's note on growing lodging is the most specific statement available. It names no properties, and neither does this page. Where to stay in Bira compares this coast with the other areas.
Does it cost anything to enter?
Detik reported free entry in May 2024, with paid parking on residents' land. The parking figure it gave is in the price table on this page. It is more than two years old, so carry small notes either way.
Whether this beach sits inside the Bira zone gate is not stated anywhere we can cite, so ask your host. The official notice for the zone is covered in the Tanjung Bira entrance fee guide.
Why was it listed for the 2026 boat-launch ritual?
The published programme does not say. Beranda Timur, writing on 9 October 2026 and quoting the programme, listed Annyorong Lopi at Pantai Panrang Luhu in Bira village, alongside a Pinisi Sailing event in Bulukumba. The article looks ahead to the festival, so it tells you what was planned and not how it went.
A yard stands at one end of the beach, which may be part of the reason, though that is our inference. Dates and venues can move from year to year; Festival Pinisi Bulukumba has the wider picture, and you should confirm any future programme with the organisers before you plan a trip around it.
What should you do with a morning there?
Sunrise is the case for coming, since this coast faces it and the western beaches do not. If you are not sleeping on this coast, the ride is in the dark, which Seascapes warns about on an unfamiliar bike. Arrange a car the evening before, or skip the sunrise. If you do come, a simple shape for the morning:
- Reach the sand before first light, with a torch.
- Watch the sunrise.
- Walk north toward the yard once the light is up.
- If you want a hill as well, go to the port end, where the turn-off for Puncak Pua Janggo lies about 200 m north of the port. Our Titik Nol Bira guide describes it.
If a ferry is what brought you here, the Bira ferry port guide covers holds and arrival times at the south end. North of this beach, the Seascapes guide lists three more east-coast beaches, Kasuso, Mandala Ria and Samboang, used mostly by domestic visitors. With a port at one end, keep an eye out for boat traffic if you swim, and read whether Tanjung Bira is safe first, because the water is unsupervised.
What else should you know about Panrang Luhu?
Where is Panrang Luhu Beach?
It lies on the eastern side of the Bira cape in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. The ministry's Jadesta platform places a pinisi yard at its north end and Bira port at its south end, about 1.5 km apart along the shore.
Is Panrang Luhu Beach free?
Detik reported free entry in May 2024, with paid parking on residents' land. That report is dated and does not say whether the beach sits inside the Bira zone gate, so ask your host and carry small notes.
Can you camp at Panrang Luhu?
The tourism ministry platform describes it as very suited to camping but lists no rules or facilities. Ask residents or a nearby guesthouse where camping is acceptable, and check the marine forecast first.
Can you see pinisi boats at Panrang Luhu?
Possibly. Sources place a pinisi yard at the north end and IDN Times calls the beach a known workshop for pinisi, but what is being built on any day is unknown. Watch respectfully and ask before entering a work area.
Which published prices did we check?
Public third-party rates and official notices, each with its source and the month we checked it. Sources disagree, some figures are old, and rates change, so check the source before you rely on a figure. These are not our offers.

How do I reach the desk?
Ask about this coast on WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 or by email at bd@juaraholding.com. The desk has no campsite or boatyard access of its own to give you, and it will tell you plainly when the sources run out.
Send the desk your dates, group size, and what you want to do. The desk replies in writing.
